Party Wall Surveying

The Party Wall etc Act 1996 is a government act that is designed to prevent and resolve disputes in relation to party walls, boundary walls and excavations near neighbouring buildings. The Act also covers ‘party structures’, which could be a wall between two houses or a floor between two flats.

A building owner proposing to start work covered in the Act is required by law to give adjoining owners notice in a procedure set down by the Act. Activities such as excavating for foundations, removing a chimney breast or inserting a steel beam can all require notice to be served.

Applewoods Surveying is able to offer expert advice on the Party Wall etc Act 1996 and how it may affect you. Whether you are planning to undertake work yourself or have received a Notice from a neighbour, we can assist you. This may include assessing whether your project falls under the Act and advising on the implications of proposed works or assisting you if you receive a Party Wall Notice from a neighbour. We can ensure the required legal notices are served correctly and that all affected properties are safeguarded with the correct legal protection.
